About Me

Helen C. A. Rowlands

Lives & works in Wales UK

In my practice as an artist and also as a psychotherapist, my work engages with themes of attachment, containment, emergence and expression. I am interested in the patterns that can be made on, or with, objects that are made available to us in the immediate environment together with those that we create. I like making work that is ambiguous and which questions whether sources are organic or non-organic in origin. I am interested in how initial forms and materials can be taken, connected, changed and re-presented in different ways whilst still maintaining relational correspondence and coherence. I’m curious about how identification within groups and communities may pattern us as social and political beings and how our identifications may be overtly or more covertly signalled at different times. I am involved in the ongoing contemporary Fluxus movements including collective representations and the continuance of mail-art initiatives.
